EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI

On January 12, 2010, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the western coast of Haiti. Buildings all over the Haitian capital of Port au Prince collapsed, killing thousands and trapping thousands more. It’s estimated that three million people have been affected by the disaster, and 200,000 have been left homeless. Chaos has descended in the city, as survivors desperately search for food, water and shelter amid the rubble.

ROGERS HAITI SUPPORT INITIATIVES

At Rogers, we promote Social Responsibility. We provide our students with a variety of local and global service opportunities so that they can contribute as responsible and caring citizens to the betterment of the world.

With the recent earthquake in Haiti, not only are we aware of the destruction and devastation caused but our awareness has been heightened about the existing poverty in Haiti. Our school held three initiatives to raise funds for Haiti:

1) Coin Donation Jar (student initiative) $588
2) Hearts for Haiti (classroom initiative) $1067
3) Bottle Drive for Haiti (PAC initiative) $1305
TOTAL: $2960

We thank each and every individual who supported any or all of these endeavors!

*all funds will be going through the Red Cross of Canada

DONATION OF TIME

If you have some time to spare and would like to help sort bottles on Saturday, January 30th between 9:00 am and noon, we would be happy to see you at the NEW Glanford Bottle Depot.

Bring your children and a smile and know that your time is a valuable contribution as we work together to raise funds to help the people in Haiti.

BOTTLE DRIVE FOR HAITI: SATURDAY, JANUARY 30th



















The Rogers PAC had a bottle drive on Saturday, January 30th from 9:00 am to noon at the NEW Glanford Bottle Depot on Glanford Avenue. Every bottle that was donated went towards Haiti relief. HEARTS FOR HAITI

At Rogers School we are very concerned about the crisis in Haiti. We would like to give the students at Rogers a chance to feel empowered to help relieve some of the suffering in Haiti by earning some funds to send to Haiti. We're going to have a Toy Sale and send all the funds raised to help Haiti. You can help!

What is it? A school wide TOY SALE

When? Wednesday, February 10th

Where? Roger's Gym

What can you do to help? Send in any gently used toys, books, games to your child's class before Friday February 5th. Each class will be given a time throughout the day in which they will go to the gym to “shop”. Please send cash and a reusable bag with your child on this day. You never know what treasures they will find!

COIN DONATION JAR

A group of students are going around from classroom to classroom collecting coins throughout the week. The goal is to collect $100 by January 28th, 2010. The money will be given to the Red Cross to help those in need in Haiti.
